Atalaya Castle
at Huntington Beach State Park

Atalaya, the Spanish-style castle and former winter home of noted American sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington and her husband, Archer Huntington was built 1931-1933. It is located at Huntington Beach State Park, adjacent to Brookgreen Gardens. in Murrells Inlet, SC The living quarters consisted of 30 rooms around three sides of the perimeter, while the studio opened onto a small, enclosed courtyard where Anna Hyatt Huntington worked on her sculptures. Atalaya was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, and was included in the designation of Atalaya and Brookgreen Gardens as a National Historic Landmark in 1984.

HOURS AND ADMISSION
  • Admission : $5/adult; $3.25/ S.C. Senior; $3/youth age 6-15; Free for children 5 and younger.

    Atalaya admission: $1 per entry to the house for visitors ages 6 and up. Children 5 and under admitted free. This fee is in addition to the park entry fee, to help preserve and protect Atalaya.

    Guided Atalaya Tours: Guided tours of Atalaya are offered March 1 - Oct. 31, 2012.

    Atalaya Audio Tour: 45 minutes in length, available year round, $4/person

  • Days and Hours of Operation : 6am-6pm, daily from Nov. 27 - March 11. Hours are extended to 10pm daily during Daylight Savings Time.

    Atalaya Hours: 9am-5pm, daily, year round

  • Office Hours : 9am-4:30pm
