Golfing in Murrells Inlet means choices.  This area is home to a variety of courses, both public and private. Award winning designers have laid out several of the public courses in Murrells Inlet.

The International Club is one course to consider. Designed by Willard Byrd this course is known for its challenging play.  Golfers on this course truly get the “woodsy” feel.  They are surrounded by clear, spring-fed lakes as well as pine and hardwood trees. This course has five sets of tees, making it a good playable course for golfers of all skill levels. The International club has a GPS system that makes navigating the rolling terrain a breeze.

Clyde B. Johnston designed the Wachesaw Plantation East Golf Course in Murrells Inlet. This public course has a reputation for fast play. As are several Murrells Inlet courses, this one is built on the site of an old rice plantation.  This course is known for its rolling fairways and bent grass greens.  Perhaps one of the best things about playing this course is the finish. The 18thhole sits on a bluff overlooking the Waccamaw River.

A second Willard Byrd designed course in Murrells Inlet is the Indigo Creek Golf Club. This course gives the golfer the true feel of spending a few hours in “The Low Country.” This course has been nominated as one of the “Top ten Places to Play Golf.”

Whichever course you chose, a round of golf in Murrells Inlet will give you a “feel” for the history and natural beauty of this unique area.

The Murrells Inlet golf course has remained one of the Grand Strand’s most player-friendly rounds. The design is one that stretches the imagination – almost begging for the untraditional at times. That has been packaged with a surface that can only be described as upper-echelon. It leaves those who set foot on this 18-hole masterpiece in awe of what they’ve just experienced.

Measuring at a maximum of 6,614 yards, this isn’t a grip-it-and-rip-it course. Then again, that’s not what Player had in mind. Doglegs are a part of nearly half of the holes, so early club selection could be the biggest influence toward an impressive scorecard.

True Blue Golf Plantation, Mike Strantz’s fourth signature golf course, opened to rave reviews in Febuary 1998. Strantz also designed the award-winning Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, which opened in 1994, on plantation land adjacent to True Blue. For his efforts at True Blue and Caledonia, Strantz was named “Architect of the Year” by Golf World in 1998. Strantz crafted True Blue to echo many of the characteristics of Pine Valley and Pinehurst #2, with an emphasis on maintaining a natural feel to the course.

The par-72 course can stretch to 7,126 and sits on the site of historic True Blue Plantation, a famed 19th-centure indigo and rice plantation. Emphasizing the natural beauty of the area, it incorporated native grasses and vegetation to maintain much of the character of the property. The course also boasts an 18-acre practice facility with a learning center.

Since opening to the public in January 1994, Caledonia Golf and Fish Club has rapidly gained a reputation as one of the premier courses in America. It is the first solo design of late, great golf course architect Mike Strantz. Strantz approached his assignments in a unique way—as an artist, rather than an engineer. His exceptionally creative eye is reflected in the way he sculpted Caledonia’s 18 holes, with large, creative greens guarded at times by ponds, streams and imposing bunkers. The same sort of majestic live oaks that overhang the entryway into Caledonia simarly frame many of the shots at Caledonia, giving the course a rustic feel. Thousands of annual and semiannual flowers bloom every year throughout the property, further adding to the beauty of the experience. No houses encumber the interior of the property—the joy of playing golf is left alone by the worry of hitting a ball into someone’s backyard.
